Living In: Albuquerque

An interview with Travel Designer and creative mind behind the blog Cam on the Geaux

Cameron Chiaro.

What brought you to where you live now?

My husband is in the military so we move around every 2-3 years. After three years in the UK, we moved to New Mexico. I actually had never been to New Mexico before moving but it has grown on me so much!

What is the best thing about your city?

Hands down, the International Balloon Fiesta which is every October!

What would you change about where you live?

We wish we lived near family - that's a con of constantly moving where the military sends you. However, we love our house, love the food & culture here, and I love how many amazing destinations are within driving distance.

What's the vibe of your neighborhood?

I actually live on a military base so it's quite different than anywhere else I have lived. I can walk to my friends houses, walk to the pool, golf course, grocery, bowling alley, etc... It's like our own little community which I love and everything I need is here. Of course, it's nice getting in to town and escaping base every now and then. :)

What things should any visitor to your city absolutely do/see?

Try any & everything with green chile - food, wine, margaritas, etc.! Visit Old Town and explore the historic pueblos, visit the Zoo, take a ride on the Sandia Peak Tramway, and partake in the International Balloon Fiesta. Santa Fe is not too far either and worth a visit!

What are your favorite restaurants?

The Grove is a great brunch spot. If you're looking for Mexican food, look no further than El Pinto.  Two other spots to check out are Farina & Relish.

What are some favorite hotels in Albuquerque?:

Los Poblanos: Historic Inn & Organic Farm
Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort & Spa
Hotel Chaco
